Renovating and Equipping a Space for Collective Wellness and Community Engagement in Simkanieh Shouf

Program Objectives

This project aims to renovate and develop the Kayan Community Centre into a functional and welcoming space dedicated to collective wellbeing, learning, and community engagement. The centre will serve as a hub for delivering Kayan’s programs, including group wellness sessions, trainings, and community-building activities.

The renovation will focus on creating a safe, accessible, and multipurpose environment that supports group meditation, workshops, and group gatherings. This includes infrastructure improvements, furnishing of key spaces such as a meditation room, and installation of essential equipment like solar energy systems to ensure sustainability and continuity of activities despite electricity challenges.

The project will be made possible through a collaborative community effort, including land provision, financial contributions, technical expertise, and in-kind support. By establishing a dedicated physical space, KaYan community strengthens its ability to provide consistent programming, expand its reach, and foster a sense of belonging and stability within the community.

Month 1-3: Planning & Assessment

• Conduct architectural and civil assessment of the space
• Finalize renovation plan and priorities
• Coordinate with contractor and technical team
• Secure materials and initial resources

Month 4-10: Renovation & Installation

• Begin construction and renovation works
• Install solar panel system
• Prepare indoor spaces (meditation room, training areas)
• Coordinate equipment delivery

Month 11-12: Furnishing & Activation

• Furnish meditation and activity spaces
• Finalize setup of rooms and utilities
• Prepare centre for program delivery
• Launch initial activities and community engagement

Expected Impact

• The project will result in the establishment of a fully functional community centre that serves as a stable and accessible hub for Kayan’s activities. The space will enable consistent delivery of wellness programs, trainings, and community gatherings in a safe and supportive environment.
• The center will strengthen community connection by providing a dedicated space where individuals can come together to learn, share, and support one another. It will also increase Kayan’s operational capacity, allowing for more structured programming and expanded reach.
• In the long term, the community center will act as a sustainable anchor for local empowerment, supporting ongoing initiatives in collective wellness, active citizenship, and community development.
